ROBERTO CONCEPCION
I
consider
this work an essential one for anyone who is immersed in the
world of percussion, in the broadest sense of the word- from
total beginners to highly demanding professionals.
Thank you for bringing your knowledge and experience into this
to-the-point and valid adaptation of our rhythms, thereby
letting the Cuban idiosyncrasy enter contemporary
music.
Well done!
CALIXTO OVIEDO
There is a lot to say about Cuban percussion, but when it is in
the hands of the multi-percussionist
Yoel Páez, we are listening to great words.
I
consider it an honour to be able to speak a little bit about
this musician. Without doubt we are in the presence of one of
the most accomplished Cuban drummer-percussionist: highly
creative and innovative.
What's
more, and this is the most beautiful thing, he has maintained
his roots. Having been born in Matanzas, the hub of the Rumba,
is a privilege which permits him to navigate straight to his
goal.
All his work is worthy of respect and admiration, his style is
his signature, as we can see in his collaborations with Pablo Fg.,
Isaac Delgado and many others. Wherever he decides to be, his
stamp is recognized and valued.
We see Yoel combining all types of Afrocuban rhythm, thus making
a hotchpotch of flavours and feelings, which these days is
rarely found in a drummer this young.
You will see the rhythm machine that characterizes Yoel in the
combinations offered in his book.
Thank you, Yoel Páez, for your work, thank you for your wisdom.
And, for sure, I will be the first to buy the book in order to
continue learning.
LUIS CONTE
This book is fundamental to the library of any percussionist.
The author adapts the Afrocuban rhythms in an incredible way to
the drum set and the percussion set, dealing, furthermore, with
aspects as important and basic as, for example, independence.
Thank you very much, Yoel!
JESUS SALVADOR “Chapi”
A
book that reflects an entire culture: the Afrocuban culture.
With a strong pedagogical background,
grounded in an industrious tradition, and with a great dose
of modernity filtered through the multidisciplinary complexity
of the drum set.
Thank you,
Yoel!
ANGEL CELADA
Yoel´s wisdom has made it possible that this superb work is
essential for perfecting styles like Latin Jazz, and is of
invaluable help for many others.
Thank you, Yoel!
JULIO MONTALVO
At last a book that shows us the rhythmical cells of the
Afrocuban rhythms through numerous examples brought to the Cuban
percussion set and the drum set. To all of this are added the
pedagogical skills and professionalism of the author, making
this work a guide that will serve not only percussionists of all
levels, but also composers, arrangers, producers and musicians
from all fields.
Thank you for so much determination and talent, which makes us
hope for volume 2. |
